Galaxy S23 HDR fix is coming with next update, Samsung confirms. The brand’s newest flagship smartphone lineup is the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. According to a Samsung support conversation captured by @UniverseIce a few days ago, on the 3rd of the month, Samsung is working on fixing the Galaxy S23 camera HDR issue with the next update. In translation, Samsung said, “Improvements are in progress and will be included in the next version.”

Samsung rolled out a major camera-improving update for the Galaxy S23 series in South Korea last month, which later expanded to Europe, India, and the US. However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra still has HDR-related camera issues, and tipster Ice Universe says Samsung will fix these with the next firmware update.
On the Galaxy S23 series of smartphones, few consumers had reported an HDR-related issue. In various lighting situations, the gadgets don’t adjust colors correctly. A well-known tipper named Ice Universe claims to have confirmation from the Samsung support staff that “improvements are in progress and will be included in the next update” (translated from Chinese).
Ice Universe doesn’t reveal when this update will be released, but we believe the fix for these HDR-related issues – causing a halo effect around the objects – will arrive with next month’s security update, which will also bump up the Android security patch level on the Galaxy S23 Ultra to May 2023.

The problem is exacerbated by the use of local tone-mapping (LTM) after HDR output and a combination of negative exposure value (EV) input frames with the same contour pattern.
Thankfully, the HDR issue demonstrated in the photo below isn’t extremely prevalent and easy to recreate. It appears to happen only in certain conditions. This bug causes a halo effect around objects in low-light or indoor conditions, seemingly when the primary light source is in the frame. Samsung says the issue has something to do with the exposure value (EV) frame and local tone-mapping (LTM).
